!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! releasing more details about the CC replacement coming for the ‘19 model year. All US spec Arteon’s will come standard with a 268 horse 2 liter turbo 4. That power will be going to the front wheels through an 8 speed auto. And no, there is no manual option unlike the CC. 4Motion awd will be an option across all trims of which there are only 3: SE, SEL and SEL Premium. No word on pricing yet but they are reporting that its going to start where the Passat tops out. I have to say its not as attractive as the CC was, and the interior makes this seem more like a refreshed CC than a whole new model:

It is handsome, very Audi like to me.

No love for the DSG box amongst the Americans? If I were to feel the urge for an Arteon the automatic choice is a 7 speed DSG. No 2.0 turbo here though unless it’s the diesel.

Very stylish interior, handsome exterior and the reviews have been good; it’s aiming at some premium-badged cars like the A5 Sportback and 4 Series Gran Coupe but even the mainstream competition has gotten so much better. Stinger, Buick Regal, Accord 2.0T, are better buys IMO. Call me a cynic but I bet that VW is going to arrogantly price it at a high premium that will turn off buyers leading it to fade away slowly like the CC.

Yea like I mentioned it looks to start at where the Passat tops off, so a top like SEL Premium should be in the mid to high 40's, which is too much. Its going to step on the toes of A5 Sportback, which starts at just under 43 grand. Its going to fade away like the CC.

Seriously considering one of these to replace the Superb next year.
Arteon.
Superb.
Passat.
Though the Superb facelift hasn’t come out yet and may go back to an estate.

Isnt it on sale over there for you guys already?

The Arteon is yes, but going to keep the current car for another year and wait to see what the Superb facelift looks like.
Also if I choose to go back to an estate car, that takes the Arteon out of the running.
I do find it odd that the U.S. will get the Arteon (MQB platform) yet still gets the Passat (NMB) on the old platform while everywhere else gets the MQB platform Passat.

Probably because sedans are not selling in the US and the US market Passat has been less premium than the Euro version for a while.

The Arteon is actually pretty well equipped so the price premium is warranted. The problem is whether people will realize this and accept the pricing.

Because VW has always short changed us with decontended cheaper models. Our Passat here is a hallow cheap mess compared to the Euro version.

But if they can give you the Arteon on the new platform, why not the Passat, the Golf is on the MQB platform so why not roll it out across the board.

Ive asked myself that question. Either they dont want to or it has something to do with the fact that sedan sales are down here.

They build the Passat NMS at the Chatanooga plant for North America and South Korea and the Atlas on the MQB platform.
America confuses me.

VW has shown time and again they dont get the NA marketplace. They shown it for years int hings they’ve done. Like what you pointed out about the MQB platform not being here, making random up market models that step on Audi’s toes, a lot of things dont make sense.

I don’t think the NA market gets the NA market.
The American market is unique to many of the world’s markets, they want big powerful cars but there are some that want smaller more efficient variety of cars but the system is geared up to keeping outsiders out both not recognising vehicle testing done elsewhere and insisting massive amounts of money and resources are wasted to comply with U.S. requirements and the 25 year rule.

Consumers here are just dumb for the most part. Thats why crossovers are doing so well here.

How about a Kia Stinger GT?

Nope. Not even a consideration.
This is the first time I’ve considered something not Skoda and not a Superb.

Thanks but I’m gonna stick with either VW or Skoda.
SEAT hasn’t anything, Audi doesn’t have anything for me either.
The boot size is important. Needs to take one or two wheelchairs with luggage.

Looks great. Sad that there won’t be a manual option...
The CC’s with the 2.0T and manual were so sweet.

I get it if you have a storage requirement and that’s pretty big, but the Stinger MIGHT be able to do it with the seats down, it’s a liftback.

Ye’, the thing is my Superb can handle two wheelchairs (disassembled) with luggage, the seats up with massive legroom in the rear and a liftback

Gonna be honest, looks pretty similar in interior space to the Stinger.

Just had a look at parkers.co.uk
Stinger 2.0 petrol, auto, no manual, 35mpgUK, 406 litres luggage capacity.
superb 1.4 petrol, manual, 50mpgUK (what I’m getting real world), 625 litres luggage
It has to be petrol and has to be manual.
Never driven an auto and don’t wish to.

they are looking at the Arteon on Jalopnik.
Loving all the American stuff, ‘but it doesn’t have a VR6', ‘if it was a V6', ‘I don’t see the point in it, maybe if was replacing the Passat’, etc... I think America needs to come to terms that many manufacturers aren’t building large engines any more, that styling is more of a thing and that manufacturers aren’t going to just keep building cars solely for them.

The NMS Passat is made in Chattanooga (hopefully I spelt it right) thus it gets no import tariffs plus they get to shovel their shitty NMS passat over to us too thank’s to NAFTA!

Same reason why the Golf R is way more expensive than the Golf GTI: import tariffs..
They can sell the NMS passat to uber drivers and such, and have the Artheon pay the tariff and be sold to F A N C Y clients.

I knew that. It’s just the Chatanooga plant makes the Passat NMS for North America and South Korea (while the Chinese Passat NMS is built in China), but why not build the Passat on the MQB platform rather than the old PQ46, it’s not like the MQB platform isn’t available in the U.S. as the Chatanooga plant uses it for the Atlas.

Stinger would probably struggle with that load tbh.... Stay in Skoda and remind us that we don’t get cool stuff

Well it sure doesn’t match up to that then. I also didn’t know manual was a requirement, would’ve dropped it right away haha

Lol. No worries.
Ye’, I’ve had to give up the physical handbrake for an electronic one for the car I wanted, I’m not giving up the manual gearbox too.
It seems daft that a manual isn’t available though.
